Calendar
of Events for Feb. 23-25, 2012:
In barbershops across America, more history is taught
than in any classroom. Haircuts tell tales—a departing soldier wants to ship
out sporting a newfade, young men with dreadlocks
brag about women, or a father christens his son with his first trim. The
barbershop is a community, and its denizens are the storytellers of their time.
York, SC, native Charles Randolph-Wright crafts a memorable collection of
personal history, current events and community lore. These colorful stories
illustrate one remarkable truth: “When you have history, you belong.”
Carolina History & Haunts "Beyond the Grave" is a 75 minute historical ghost walking tour of Uptown Charlotte guided by the eerie glow of candlelight. Guide dressed in 19th century attire with lantern. Listen to Charlotte's historical background as we match it up with the local haunts. Open Year-Round. Stops include 4th Ward and Settler's Cemetery.
A 6,420-year-old child mummy from Peru, one the oldest
mummies ever discovered, joins an astonishing collection of mummies and related
artifacts in the extraordinary exhibition Mummies of the World, which will
debut at Discovery Place on November 11, 2011. The presentation will mark the
fourth stop of the exhibition’s exclusive seven-city tour.
Mummies of the World, the world's largest exhibition of
mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, presents a
never-before-seen collection of naturally and intentionally preserved mummies.
Presented with reverence and dignity, this compelling collection includes
ancient mummies and important artifacts from around the world, some predating
King Tut by more than 3,000 years.
If you are what you eat, then while
dining in Charlotte you’d be a Southern-fried supper with a side of mac n’
cheese…or a Mediterranean mouthful of heavenly hummus…or a phenomenal filet
cooked to 1600 degrees of perfection. Guess that proverb doesn’t work too well
in the Queen City of Charlotte.
With so many restaurants to choose
from, this city literally is a feast for the senses. Charlotte restaurants
range from don’t miss hole-in-the-wall joints with fried pickles you’ll never
forget, to French-inspired fine dining with panoramic views of the city below,
or “farm-to-fork” fare that’s fresher than you can imagine. If your mouth isn’t
watering yet, check your pulse. Charlotte’s culinary treasures await.
