All CS/CT Faculty,

Please find the below information from Amy Brown regarding new requirements for online students. FT Faculty, please read closely about the advising component, and the request for removal of the old orientation assignment that required uploaded the certificate of completion that some of you have used in the past (the last three paragraphs are the important pieces to look at).

Adjunct faculty members can ignore the portions about advising, of course. In addition, for adjuncts, your courses will be setup with (potentially) different orientation assignments if you have a class that requires uploading the certificate of completion.

This is a heads up for all full-time faculty members who advise students AND online faculty members.  Thank you in advance for forwarding this email to your folks.

Starting with the upcoming summer and fall 2017 registration, students must complete Online Success Seminar in Moodle with a course grade of 100 BEFORE they REGISTER for an online section at GTCC.  Our data tells us that students who complete this seminar before taking an online course are more successful in that course.

Over 5,000 GTCC students have already completed this seminar.  They don’t have to complete it again.  We will inform ITS that they have met the requirement.  If a student is unsure if s/he has met the requirement, direct them to 1) log into Moodle, 2) go to Online Success Seminar and 3) select “Grades”.  Students with a COURSE total of 100 have completed the course.  I have attached a sample showing a student with a 50 course total.  This student would need to complete the first two assignments with 100% to register for an online course.

As a faculty adviser, direct your advisees to complete this task now if it’s not already completed.  This seminar takes 1-2 hours to complete depending on the student.

As an online faculty member, now is the time to phase out the assignment that requires students to upload a certificate of completion for this seminar.  Since everyone has to take it to register, there is no need for the certificate.  Instead, we have loaded two other possible initial assignments for your students to complete in both your summer and fall 2017 Moodle sites (online courses only).

As we get closer to registration, I will have more details to share. If anyone has any questions, direct them to me.
